Volunteering in Wells
Volunteering is at the heart of community life in Wells - it can make a real difference to your own life and the lives of those around you.
People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it provides an opportunity to develop a new skill or build on their experience and knowledge. For others it may offer the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. Volunteering can be a route to employment, or allow you to try something new which may lead to a career change.
You might want to give something back to an organisation that has impacted on your life, make a difference to the lives of others, gain confidence and self-esteem, help the environment, improve your employment prospects, meet new people and make new friends - or get to know the local community. Whatever your motivation, you will find volunteering both challenging and rewarding.
The organisations in Wells will be able to help you with guidance on the opportunities available, and then provide training and support for the role you choose. Time commitments can be from as little as an hour or so - every little helps - but most organisations will find it more helpful if you are able to join them on a regular basis.
Without individuals like you giving their time and enthusiasm, many organisations and groups would not be able to operate. So if you can get involved, please get in touch with one of the many groups on this website and find out about the opportunities to volunteer. Everyone can make a difference!
In June, Wells takes part in Volunteers Week, a national celebration of volunteering that gives charities and community groups the chance to thank our volunteers and celebrate the difference they make. Come along to events and find out more ...
