Ageing Well is a programme managed by Age UK Somerset and it is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of older people. Being active has a huge positive effect on health at any age, but amongst older people, doing more can have a life-changing impact. Ageing Well organises classes and events across Somerset and participants say it’s a great way to have fun, meet new people and feel fitter. There are two classes currently running in Wells.
“Extend, Movement to Music” run by Chris Burtt, is held every Tuesday, 10-11am at in the town hall. This class is suitable for anyone over 60, with fun routines and exercises - that can be done standing or seated - great for improving balance, co-ordination and circulation. It costs just £4.00 and there’s no need to book – just turn up and join in!
"The Stay Strong, Stay Steady" class, provided in conjunction with Somerset County Council, is accessed by referral only. The aim is to help participants improve balance and rebuild muscle strength, leading to increased confidence and helping to reduce the risk of damaging falls. If you would like to join the Wells class, please start by contacting Age UK Somerset, as you will need to complete a simple health questionnaire to check the class is right for you. Alternatively, you can ask your GP or other health professional to refer you.
