Beethoven’s First Symphony

with St Andrews Chamber Orchestra
7.00pm – 8.15pm
Beethoven was still in his 20s, and very much the new boy in town, when he threw down the gauntlet to Mozart and Haydn with a symphony of his own. It’s a young man’s work and is played here by a group of similarly ambitious young Wells musicians, who have an impression to make on the musical world and have formed their own orchestra to do so. The programme also includes the Russian Easter Overture by Rimsky Korsakov, Elgar's Sospiri and Ravel's delicate Pavane For a Dead Infanta.
