Wells Cathedral School
By Michael Morpurgo adapted by Simon Reade.
"I’ve had nearly 18 years of yesterdays and tomorrows, and tonight I must remember as many of them as I can. Tonight, more than any other night of my life, I want to feel alive!”
Private Peaceful relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn. During the night, he looks back at his short but joyful past growing up in rural Devon: his exciting first days at school; the accident in the forest that killed his father; his adventures with Molly, the love of his life; and the battles and injustices of war that brought him to the front line. Can a bond and loyalty between brothers overcome the brutality of the front lines and bring them safely home?
Following the past triumphs of Les Misérables, The Crucible and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Wells Cathedral School marks the centenary year of the end of World War I by telling Michael Morpurgo’s compelling tale of love, loyalty, bravery and redemption. Featuring an original live score specially commissioned for the production and an ensemble cast, this is a show not to be missed.
This amateur production of Private Peaceful (Ensemble version) is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.
